Happy Saturday? Welcome to ✨ Get to Know Your Westwood Family✨
We might be biased, but she is pretty amazing. She is adventurous, kind and has a heart for others. She is more comfortable behind the scenes and has a huge servant heart!
Get comfortable and take a minute to meet Sydney Reimer.
WW: Let’s start with you telling us about yourself. Where did you grow up?
I grew up here in Prince George and have lived here my whole life. I went to Westwood Elementary School and Prince George Secondary School.
WW: Tell us a bit about what you do.
Right now I am working on and Undergraduate Degree in Biology up at the University. Currently I am working for a landscaping company mowing lawns and gardening.
WW: What do you do for fun?
Anything that gets me outside! I love hiking, rock climbing (indoor and outdoor), swimming, waterskiing, and downhill skiing are some of my favorites. I also love playing volleyball, inside and outside, wherever I can get my hands on a ball really.
Baking is also something I’m really passionate about. I love baking cakes and cupcakes and decorating them in cool ways, but I also love simple baking, like cookies and brownies! It’s really fun to turn a bunch of ingredients that are useless on their own into something delicious!
I also love board games and card games and also just reading a good book.
WW: How long have you been at Westwood Church 😁?
I have been at Westwood since I was born, so 23 years. I have left for school and to work at camps but I always come back to Westwood because of the community that has been built up around me over my life here.
WW: I used to miss you by the end of Sunday morning, the Youth kids would carry you around, friends would hold you. Once home, I would hold you on a Sunday afternoon as much as I could!! How have you volunteered and served at Westwood?
I have served in the nursery and Preschool rooms looking after kids, teaching them Bible stories, and playing games. I have also helped at various events over the years whether it be in the kitchen preparing meals, doing dishes, helping set up or take down, or leading table groups for Bible studies. I have been a youth leader in the past and right now, I am on the Young Adults Leadership team.
WW: What has life been like for you the last few years?
A few years ago, I finished two years of Bible school out at Briercrest where I had taken Biblical Studies and played volleyball. While I was there, I learned a lot about God and about myself. A lot of valuable, formative growth happened and it was an incredible period in my life.
When I came back, I decided to take a year off school and I ended up working at Westwood as the custodian. Closer to summer, I was talking to a friend about her experience working at a camp the past year. She had worked at Camp Qwanoes on Vancouver Island and she told me that they had a position for a Head Waterskiing Instructor. In that moment I knew that I was supposed a that camp doing that job. I applied and spent an incredible summer on the ocean teaching kids how to ski, wakeboard, and kneeboard.
When I came back to Prince George, I started my degree but I also began what turned into a very toxic relationship. God gave me the strength and courage to end it and when school finished, I went back to camp to do the same job. The second summer was more teaching kids and meeting amazing people but it was even better than last summer. God did a lot of healing and redemptive work in me over that summer. Coming back began another year of school and meeting different people and starting new relationships which has been really fun and I’m excited to see where they take me.
WW: It was amazing to see your growth as you served at camp. Beautiful!! What are you appreciating about the changes in life due to the impact of the Pandemic?
I have liked how everything has kind of slowed down. Life isn’t so full of everything that has to be done or places that we have to go anymore. It feels a lot more relaxed.
WW: What do you miss about life before social distancing and the
I miss being able to spontaneously hang out with people and doing things. I really miss hanging out with my friends. I miss just being able to pile into one car and go on some wild adventure.
WW: How has God been with you in this time? What are you learning about Him?
He has shown me in many ways that He is good and that He is in control. He has provided me with a lot of really incredible relationships and having these people has made the pandemic a lot easier. I’m learning that He has a plan for me and even though I might not know what it is, He does and that is enough.
Thank you for sharing Sydney! We are praying as you continue to trust God with your future and as you are obedient in each next step He shows you!!
