| Sinclair-Peters: Better Than Reality TV |
|
Dear Friends and Family, Honestly, it felt like a reality T.V. Show! Read More with pictures! It always happened the same way: Someone on the truck would suddenly scream, “stop the truck!”. Then they would jump out and run into the arms of a bewildered brother or sister standing in a rice field. For those who were watching, we were a strange audience. Once the family started crying with joy and jumping up and down, we all started crying! It was another “best of the best” of the privilege of being a missionary. Thank you for praying that we would be received and not rejected! The act of helping our believers “come home” was a powerful “ Key” that God gave us to open people’s hearts to the Gospel. In total, 14 people gave their hearts and lives to Jesus over the 4 day trip. We were so proud of our new believers. They boldly stood before their families and told them the difference Jesus has made in their lives. Then they implored their families to put their trust in God. Old Uncle Man was so nervous that he spoke to his family with a song sheet covering his face! However his testimony was precious and sincere. That day 3 ladies raised their hands to ask Christ into their heart. Another highlight was preaching the Gospel in Pastor Naat’s village. The next day we had the joy of leading Naat’s 79 year old father to Christ. Hallelujah! Thank you for praying for our protection. We knew God’s angels were working hard on our behalf when our daughters, Sierra and Grace rescued Pastor Naat’s 10 year old niece who was drowning in the canal. We also saw God’s strong hand of protection as Bob swerved at 100 km/hr to avoid hitting a police officer on the road. All the officer wanted was a 3 dollar bribe! We praise God that no one was killed and that all the teens in the back of the truck stayed put! Family Secrets and the Bondage of Shame. Since many of our believers had not been home in more than 10 years, we realized that God wanted to use this trip to bring a deeper freedom in Christ to each person. One women confessed to us for the first time that she never wanted to return to her village because her mother had been murdered when she was 11 years old. She felt incredible shame that her mom had died because of a scandalous affair with a monk in her village. But with the support of us all around her and the peace of Christ, returning home this time was without fear and without shame. Even better, God gave her a new, bold love for her family! Our last stop was near the Mekong River along the Thai-Lao border. May had told us many times how deeply she missed her mom. But as she ran to greet her, we noticed a sudden change come over our happy, vibrant, “Evangelist”. That night many of May’s friends and family came to hear the Gospel. Our teens did an awesome job with their drama and Pastor Naat preached the Gospel clearly. But everyone in the audience seemed restless and “dull” to our message. That night, Naat couldn’t sleep. As she prayed, the Holy Spirit said to her “Reconciliation must come before Salvation. You must help May forgive her mom before she goes home.” The next morning as we sat on the grass and worshipped the Lord, May’s mom told us that before we came to her village, she had never heard the name of Jesus before. We hadn’t been singing together very long before Naat crawled over to May and started weeping at her feet. She said, “May, last night the Holy Spirit told me that our work here isn’t finished. God wants you to forgive your mom.” May burst into tears and turned away from her mom in anger. She told us her mom had given her away as a baby. Then, she ran away to Bangkok when she was 14. As May poured out her anger, we were surprised to see that May’s mom didn’t deny or react to this charge. Instead, she cried and listened to her daughter. Then with humility, she asked May for forgiveness! After hearing their stories, we felt the pain of poverty and understood again how desperate and vulnerable poor, single mothers are in this world. As we looked to May to respond to her mother’s request for forgiveness, May struggled for a long time to let go of the bitterness she felt. We waited. We interceded for a revelation of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for May. Praise God! May finally let go. We thank God that we could share in this sweet moment of grace and forgiveness with May and her mom. We are certain that God’s salvation will come quickly now to this village. Thank you for praying for our mission trip! Louise and Dave
